FPBA Convention Las Vegas - 2011 Airbrush Demonstration

At this evening's Bodypainting Jam at the FPBA Convention I was asked to demonstrate a quick airbrush look. I painted this oriental inspired top on fellow Brit and Bodypainter Carolyn Roper. Carolyn was a superstar! I wish I looked this good in not much more than paint!!

FPBA Convention Las Vegas - 2011 images from Day 3 - Quick Painted Clothes

Photo: Jason Harre - www.jasonharre.com - 2011

Today's class I was teaching for the FPBA Convention at Harrah's, Las Vegas, was Quick Body Painted Clothes. I demonstrated a speedy cocktail dress look and broke out some practice bodies for the students to paint in teams alongside me. I demonstrated, blocking out the design, base application, creating folds and creases in fabric, highlighting and shading, creating a drop shadow, painting fine detail and sealing the look.

As I worked on my model the students got to work on thier own versions of the a cocktail dress look. It is always wonderful to see how amazing students work can be in a hands on class. I had a fantastic model - Alana who I hope to paint with again as she has a fantastic attitude.

Here are a few images from the class including a great shot of Alana by my husband Jason Harre who was the event's unofficial photographer.

FPBA Convention Las Vegas - 2011 images from Day 2 - Painted Hands Class

I love teaching about painted hands, it is such a wonderful way to use your body art skills and let rip with your imagination. Many of my commerical jobs feature painted hand looks of many different kinds. During the class we explored painted hands inthe media and spent time examining hand art by a range of artists.

With the students feeling suitably inspired, I decided to allow empower the students to each create paint thier own hands to collage together into a our own verson of a painting. I chose the image Tiger Surprised by Henri Rousseau to inspire the students and guided them through creating thier own looks to jigsaw together into a finished look.
The results were amazing, the students showed some really excellent work! Especally my youngest student - my 7 year old daughter, Isobel, who was shadowing her Mummy for the day! Here is a selection of the different looks we created. Well done everyone!!
If you are interested in taking a painted hands class I will be running one at the FABAIC Convention in Orlando at the end of May. Hope to see you there!!

The Naked Truth Charity Calendar raises over £150,000 for The Lighthouse Club.

Byrnes Brothers hand over a cheque for over £153,000

Towards the end of last year I worked on a series of bodypainting images for a calendar for The Byrne Group called "The Naked Truth". We spent a week in the studio and on construction locations around London working with a great team. Photography was by Susan Porter-Thomas at SPT Photography and I was aided by my fantastic assistant Natasha, whose expertise and massaging our models cramps from holding tricky positions as well as her painting skills were greatly appreciated.

This was a calendar with a very limited run of no more than 100 copies which were auctioned to raise money for The Lighthouse Club which helps the families of those killed or injured in the construction industry. Images from the calendar are so exclusive they will not be available for general release, but it featured Byrne employees painted to vanish into a variety of different industrial backgrounds.

Byrne Brothers announced last week that the calendar raised in excess of £150,000 for The Lighthouse Club.

FPBA Convention Las Vegas - 2011 images from Day 1

For the convention's opening jam I was booked to paint a model to vanish into an elaborate background I had created. Sadly my model did not show up due to a bit of confusion so I was left with a backdrop and no model. Thankfully as the evening wore on one of the organisers of the event Lea Selley volunteered to step in and model herself. I am in awe of her bravery not only to step in at the last minute like that, but to set aside her inhibitions in front of her peers. Thanks for being such a great sport Lea! It was Lea's first time as a bodypainting model and she did an amazing job. As I had much less time to paint Lea I chose an easy seated pose for her which had less detail to blend her into. Some day I will redo a bodypaint with this backdrop and use the full extent of the detail - until then - thankyou Lea for being such a fabulous model. I hope you enjoyed the experience!!

Filming a commerical for L'Usine in Lebannon

A few months ago I flew out to Lebannon to shoot a TV commerical for Saudi Arabian Bakery company L'Usine. I was working for Beirut based City Films, who made me feel really welcome in Beirut. The concept was bodypainting three contortionists with faces on thier stomachs so that they can create strange creatures to feature in the advert. Definately one of the more unsusual requests I have had, technically tricky as the contortion positions can only be held for a short periods of time. The stomach stretches so much when contorted that all sorts of clever techniques had to be employed to paint detailled featured that were not distorted when the bodies were in position. The three contortionists featured were  JJ Langridge, David Pereira and Milo Gonzales. The commerical was directed by Gaute Hesthagen of Uitch I Scratch.

We shot three commerical over the three shoot days. View the commercials here:

Underwater Bodypainting at Clothes Show Live with photographer CAndice for Fresh 2O Charity.

Last week I was painting for three days at the Clothes Show live at Earl's Court. I was there as part of a fund raising and PR event for water charity Fresh 2o. Fresh 2o is run by Oscar winning photographer Candice who has found an excellent way to use her amazing photography skills to raise funds for this worth cause. Take a moment to check out thier website www.fresh2o.org

A huge including celebrity stylist Arabella Boyce, Celebrity Hairstylist Michael Barnes, Make-Up Artists Hannah Wing and Anne Marie Simak and myself bodypainting worked our way through a veritable parade of celebrities and personalities from all walks of life creating amazing looks for them to submerge in the huge underwater tank Candice had set up in the Centre of the Clothes Show. There were about 15 models submerging for the shoot - which was a marathon of preparation and photography. I painted Olympiac Swimmer Karen Pickering, Olympic Synchro Swimmer Jenna Randall, Socialite and TV Presenter Hofit Golan and British Actress Rosie Fellner. It was high pressure to work with so many models in such a public arena but from what I can see so far the results looks amazing. I hope Fresh 2o raised lots of funds for thier current campaign!

Below are a few snaps from Fresh 2O's blog - finished images from Candice's underwater rig to follow at some point in the near future hopefully!

Candice and Hofit after a successful submerged shoot.

Live Bodypainting for Caorunn Gin at the All Bar 10 Trade show in London

Today saw me painting live at a trade show for the Bar industry called All Bar 10. I was working for a bespoke gin company called Caorunn. They comissioned me to paint an Art Nouveau design espousing thier company style. I rendered the gin's logo as well as special celtic art nouveau symbols representing each of the infusions which make this gin so unsual onto a model live on their stand. I worked again with the ever lovely Kelby Keenan who is a fabulous model. I'm really pleased wiht the finished design, and we even got a few mentions in the trade press.

Rubicon Billboard photo shoot at Studio 4

Last week I was painting at Studio 4 for an advertisment for soft drinks manufacturer Rubicon. The concept was to take a family of five and have thier hands stacked up with a painting of the new family sized soft drink painted over the tower of hands. It was a great day for co-incidences as it turned out the nail tech for the job was one of my ex students Keti Nikolova and one of the hand models turned out to be fellow make-up artist Sushma Pugalia who I used to share an agent with. Small world! The models were great, it was tricky to stay still for such a long time and our youngest model who was 7 did an absolutely amazing job. I am not sure my 7 year old would manage to stay still for so long.

The photography was by Studio 4's Ross Perkins, it was great to work with such an amazing team. I really hope I get to work with them again as studio 4 has a fantastic vibe. Yesterday Studio 4 added some behind the scenes pics to thier blog - so below is a sneak peak of what we got up to. I am sure the final cut will be amazing!!

Bodypainting Suzanne Shaw of Emmerdale for Celebs on Sunday Magazine Cover and Feature

Last week I was asked to bodypaint Suzanne Shaw of Emmerdale for the cover of The Mirror's Celebs on Sunday Magazine. The concept was to make her look as though she was covered in mud before she was submerged in a bath of mud as well for the feature set to accompany the actress and singer joining the cast of Emmerdale.

Video from "This is Now" campaign

Ogilvy Advertising have released on youtube the shots from the Ford Fiesta "This is Now" campaign. So heres my favourite selections of my work. Nice to see them full scale instead of inside the little TVs. The campaign seems to be everywhere right now - nice to see billboards with my work on them. Enjoy.

Article in The Creative Review about Ford's This Is Now advert.

Yesterday magazine The Creative Review published an article on featuring the advert I worked on for Ford earlier in the year. The advert was directed by Noah Harris and features gorgeous art shorts which were created by young up coming artists to represent the zeitgeist, the now.... The short art films were played inside television screens which featured in the advert and which eventually turned into the motor car driving away. I love the concept and think the advert looks incredible.

Still from the advert which shows two of the films I worked on which were styled by Nicky Yates.

The article features videos of selections of the films which are featured in the advert as stand alone films, some of them are gorgeous. Really worth a peek!
